Castelnau Castle

The second most important castle in France. An amusing story links it to Turenne. The hitherto liege lord Count of Toulouse made the the Baron of Castelnau vassal to Turenne and this was confirmed in 1219 by the King and accepted by Maffre II, son of the Baron. This link was confirmed in 1221 in front of the abbots of Tulle and Martel and the Baron of Castelnau had to pay an annual tribute of one egg, ceremoniously taken in an ox cart to Turenne.
